Executive Coaching

As coaching has grown in popularity over the past few years, it is only natural that one must differentiate among the various types of coaching. However, the focus of CaribCoaching is on Executive Coaching.

According to Executive Coach Academy, “Executive Coaching is a facilitative, one-to-one, mutually designed relationship between a professional coach and a key individual who has a powerful/important position in an organization.” The coaching is contracted for the benefit of the individual who is accountable for highly complex decisions with wide scope of impact on the organization and beyond. The focus of coaching in this context is on the growth and development of the executive in order to have a resounding impact on the organizational performance, productivity and the successful achievement of a key specific project or the overall success of the organization’s mission and vision.

The practice of Executive Coaching may involve many of the types of coaching including career coaching, life coaching, transitioning or onboarding coaching, relationship coaching, legacy coaching, succession coaching, developmental coaching, and communication coaching (and much more). Thus, an executive coaching engagement may over time touch on the executive’s career or personal life issues.

Two factors always distinguish executive coaching from these other types, however:

  1. To be most effective systemically, it always involves a partnership among executive, coach, and organization.
  2. The individual goals of an executive coaching engagement must always link back to and support strategic organizational objectives.
